re you in the mental state of Meaninglessness? Do you wish that you could find solutions to meaningful issues but find other trivial issues are drowning them under the waves of the sea of life? For example, we can delay the planning time it takes to prepare a family vacation because we need to get the children to the next series of events. After which, we complain that we need a vacation because we are overwhelmed by our busyness. We are trapped!
We get trapped by so many things in our life. We are trapped by our obligations. We are committed to what we are doing for others, but those commitments can grow to such a large degree that we would have never said yes to them. It would be impossible to back out now, or so it seems. We are trapped by the choices and mistakes we made years ago. Imperfect humans we are.
The name of those demons are legion! Why does it seem that the punishment for these choices and mistakes is longer than the event? The consequence of our actions does not seem to equal the crime. We are trapped in our mindsets as well. Learned patterns were given to us by our parents or by the culture around us. Those patterns sometimes trap us as we repeat the sins of our forerunners. We march on in life using the steps we have been taught. Those steps are a trap. They will never get us further than we are.
Life just seems so meaningless as we are trapped in these patterns. What must we do? Jesus has a great heart for us trapped people. He said that he came to set the captives free. He came to give us life. What a great opportunity to follow the freedom that he offers! He only asks one thing for this to work: Follow Him. Treat Him as our new Master.
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners,” Isa. 61:1
We need to follow Jesus down this path of freedom and life. He said that he came to set us free. When we first hear this we approach the offer with strong curiosity. We want to know how He will accomplish this. Most of us are not quite ready to give up our power and control, at least to start. We wish to understand what he is asking and sharing so that we can pick and choose from the menu of His ways. Carefully and controlled, led by the Holy Spirit, we edge forward toward faith.
Our pre-faith jump is a power-sharing agreement. The offer we counter with is the 60% Jesus path” to receive some needed improvement in our life as a short-term fix. What we desire in our flesh is not so much a Kingdom of Heaven Jesus, but a great life coach. Life coach Jesus. If you have been on that plan for a while you know how ineffective it is. It is our plan, not His. Shortly, small concessions tend to grow and the 40% not under Jesus will still feel like a prison. We are faced now with questions. Did Jesus not work? Do I really have to go 100% in? How about 95%?
We are busy making terms for our contract with God as he sits in silence because he has said everything he needs to say in the matter. He shared many truths about contract negotiations with him. Those that have ears to hear and eyes to see, let them hear and see this. Jesus said, “You cannot serve two masters. You will hate one and love the other.” In the end, you will be a 100%er one way or another. There is no negotiating with Masters.
Are you ready to stop living the meaningless life of frustrations with obligations, distractions, busyness, mindsets, and your past? Are you ready to choose a new master? The master that Jesus is, is a master that proved His love to you. He will still prove his love today.
Pray this with me- “Jesus, show me your love for me because I want to be on the 100% Jesus plan.” When He does, I hope you will see that we should follow the Master that wants to love us and set us free and not the Master that drives us and keeps us trapped.
